Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, An Extra 40 Bhp From Enlarged DI Engine

Image
Lamborghini keeps improving the stunning Gallardo supercar, without changing the basic style, but now comes the most powerful version yet: the Lamborghini GallardoLP560-4, which is more powerful than the lightweight Superleggera. The key to the performance is the adoption of the new 5.2 liter V-10 engine used already to generate 572 bhp in twin-turbo form to propel Audi's heavy RS 6 quattro Avant. The lightweight Gallardo does not need twin turbos to make it very exciting to drive, and the progressive roar of that V-10 as it races to 8,000 rpm – 8,500 rpm if you must – is much more in keeping with a supercar. Longitudinale Posteriore and 560 PS (552 bhp) Nor is the GallardoLP560-4 just about power. Well, to start with it is about a name: LP stands for Longitudinale Posteriore, or rear-mounted in-line, meaning that this is the classic supercar mid-engined layout. Lamborghini repeats the formula of Gallardo Superleggera to make the Murcielago among the very quickest of exotic cars. Just when it looked as if the small manufacturers of exotic cars had pushed power outputs out of reach, the fabulous Italian company has come back with an upgrade for the Murcielago - the Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce. Some name! Well, the big news is that the output of the superb V-12 engine has been pushed up the power output from 640 to 670 bhp, which gives the car a stunning 0-60 mph time of 3 seconds. Top speed is around 212 mph. In truth, this power output is not up to the monsters that generate 800 to over 1,000 bhp, but 670 bhp is plenty of power . Of course, Lamborghini could have resorted to turbos to get much more power, but in a real world there is not much point. As with all Lambos, you get four-wheel drive, giving tremendous grip and handling  With 670 bhp (493 kW) at 8,000 rpm, and maximum torque 487 lb ft (660 Nm) at 6,500 rpm, this eng...
